Group Therapy at HeadFirst Counseling in Dallas

New Therapy Groups at HeadFirst Counseling!

We are pleased to announce that HeadFirst Counseling is now offering group therapy for select populations of our clients. Group therapy can further enhance and speed along growth and progress in individual therapy, or is sometimes a stand alone treatment. Group therapy is also more cost effective and is a welcome alternative for some clients looking to receive therapy services but aren’t able to commit to weekly individual sessions.

Benefits of Group Therapy:

One main purpose of group therapy is to build a sense of oneness with the greater community and help the group members know that they are not alone in their struggles and that others share similar feelings and emotions. Group therapy also provides vicarious learning in which group members learn from hearing other’s stories and experiences without directly experiencing them themselves. Group therapy provides members with a safe place to try out new skills and work on decreasing social anxiety and improve social relationships.

HeadFirst Counseling is currently offering a lesbian women’s group that meets twice per month to process concerns related to being a lesbian and facing discrimination, biases, and unsupportive people in their families, community, and workplace.

We are looking to add an adolescent girl’s group in the fall, so be on the lookout for news about that group coming soon! This group will focus on stress, anxiety, and social conflicts common in adolescent peer relationships.

Parenting groups are also available at HeadFirst, with another round of Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) groups starting soon.

Check with your therapist to see whether group therapy is an appropriate fit for you and to discuss the groups HeadFirst is offering!
